Summer Sibshops Offers Support for Siblings—and Relief for Parents

Parents of children with special needs often wonder how to best support the other kids in the family—those who help out, stay flexible, and sometimes get less attention. This summer, Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports is offering a program just for them.

Summer Sibshops with Prairie Grit are part support group, part party. Designed for children ages 7–13 who have a sibling with a disability, diagnosis, or developmental delay, these sessions give kids a chance to share, connect, and have fun with others who understand their experience.

“We see it again and again—siblings who leave Sibshop feeling empowered and connected, and parents who feel a little lighter knowing someone is pouring into their other child too,” said Krystal Butgereit, Executive Director of Prairie Grit Adaptive Sports. “We have so many different situations with these families, but one goal. To help the entire family feel supported.”

Why parents are signing up:

  • Their kids feel seen and supported

  • Children gain tools for handling big emotions and sibling dynamics

  • Families grow stronger when every child is cared for—not just the one with a diagnosis

Each Sibshop blends games, guided discussion, and peer connection led by trained facilitators in a playful, pressure-free setting. It’s a space where kids can relax, relate, and recharge.

Session Dates and Times:

  • Tuesday, June 3

  • Tuesday, July 1

  • Tuesday, August 5

Dinner is provided by Papa John’s Pizza. Each session runs 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM at the Minot Family YMCA.

Registration is free and space is limited. Sign up today at:
